Saint Maria Goretti

We watched this movie last night.  WOW!  It was a good movie, if such subject matter can be deemed as "good".  Thankfully, the girls had already gone to bed.   Parts of it were definitely hard to watch.  To think that her life came to such a violent end was almost more than I could stand.  She had such a heart for God!

The attacker stabbed Maria (11 years old) several times.  After enduring the attack, she also had to suffer through surgery without anesthesia.  She forgave her attacker before she died even going so far as to say that she wanted him in heaven with her.  At some point, he repented and he was in attendance at her canonization.

When Dan and I were in Rome for our anniversary in 2007, we were blessed to be able to visit  Our Lady of Mercy in Nettuno where Maria's remains are interred.  Below is a picture of the Church.

I would recommend the movie, however, I would watch it yourself first before you let any of the littles in your home see it.  It's in Italian but dubbed in English.

Movie Night...and mischief!

Tonight was movie night! We decided on Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Dan and Nathan had already seen it at the movies, but because I hadn't, they agreed to see it again. This one wasn't as enjoyable as the others (IMHO). To me, it seemed really dark and I just didn't like the direction it was going. I was glad when it was over.

The girls were not interested in this movie and I really wouldn't let them watch it anyway. They happily skipped off to their room to "play school" while we had popcorn and watched the movie. Because Dan has a great view of the hallway from his spot on the sofa, he would call out to me every now and then that the girls had made several trips to the bathroom. This should have been my first clue that they were into something they shouldn't be.

When the movie was over, I slowly walked toward their bedroom to see what they were doing. It was eerily quiet. I could see them both sitting on the floor....concentrating on something.
Besides totally destroying their room.....they had apparently decided they wanted to paint..............with Q-tips....the brand new box I just bought at the store YESTERDAY! What did they use for paint??? Well, I'm glad you asked......FRUIT PUNCH! Yes..you heard that correctly....fruit punch. Luckily, they were "painting" on paper...and not the walls or the carpet!

They had their paintings laid out nicely on their dressers to dry! There must have been at least 30 pink stained Q-tips all over the floor! Sigh......

Apparently that's what I get for allowing my two girls to play in their room unsupervised for 90 minutes! My bad.

Family Movie Night

We try to have a family movie night on Fridays. It doesn't always work out that way though. Either Dan is working or there is some family/church function that we need to attend. However, today the girls behaved really well at the pediatrician's office (they both have bronchitis!!) and so, we wanted to reward them for a really good day!!

Since we hadn't been to the video store, I scoped out what was "On Demand".....and we ended up watching Horton Hears a Who! I have to say, this was a really good movie! I know that we're a little late in watching it as it came out sometime last year, but, it was great!

I'm sure that all of the political "talking heads" and "pundits", pro-lifer's and pro-choicer's have all had a great time picking it apart....but I must say that it had a GREAT message:

"A person is a person, no matter how small"

Hmmm....even Dr. Seuss got it! When will the rest of the knuckleheads?
If you have not had the chance to see this movie....please rent it! You will not be disappointed! Dan and I were in hysterics several times....I mean really belly-laughing! This was just what I needed to shake me out of my funk!
