Monday Morning Nugget

You have remitted the guilt of your people; you have forgiven all their sins.  You have held back all your wrath; you have not lashed out with your anger.  -Psalm 85:3-4

Reflection:  Mary, ever Virgin, is a true Mother of Mercy, who disposes Jesus to clemency.  As a consoler of the human race, she never ceases to pour out before Him her prayer for the salvation of the faithful crushed by the weight of their sins.   -St. Pius V

Prayer:  O Mary, you continually plead for us before the throne of your Divine Son.  Help me to show my gratitude for His mercy toward me by striving to avoid all sin in the future.  Amen

Confidence in Mary

"Whoever entrusts himself to her will possess her, and his descendants will also inherit her.....Then she will bring him happiness, and reveal her secrets to him.   --Sirach 4:16-18

Reflection:  See the confidence that the Church places in Mary.  In all public calamities, she invariably calls upon the faithful to enlist her protection through novenas, through prayers and processions, and through visits to her churches and shrines.  --St. Alphonsus Liguori

Prayer:  O Mary, the whole Church puts her trust in you.  Teach me to trust you completely in all the troubles and adversities of life--whether of body or soul.  Amen

Mary, Mother of Mercy

They cried out to you, and from heaven you heard them and rescued them according to your compassion time after time....Neh 9:28

Reflection: Mary is not only called the Mother of Mercy, she is the Mother of Mercy. And she proved that she is by the loving tenderness with which she helps us all. -St. Alphonsus Liguori

Prayer: O Mary, you are the Mother of Mercy. Plead my cause day and night before your Divine Son. In your mercy, do not let me be lost forever.

Mary as Intercessor

"You shall search for me, and you shall find me, when you seek me with all your heart.  I will be found by you, and I will bring you back."  --Jer 29:13-14

Reflection:  We must pray to Mary and call upon her.  She is admirable for herself and lovable for us.  As in the Gospel, Mary now intervenes with her Son and obtains for Him miracles that the ordinary course of things would not allow. --Pope Paul VI

Prayer:  O Mary, you know our human needs and sorrows.  Grant that I may have recourse to you in all my anxieties and always obtain God's gracious help.  Amen
