F.Y.I.

Have you seen this movie?  If you answered "no" to that question, let me spare you the trouble....bad, bad, bad, bad, bad.

Dan and I know better than to let the kids view a movie that we haven't seen, but we let this one slip because it was animated.  Gone are the days when you could feel safe with a cartoon!  The good news, it only cost us a dollar at Redbox....but the bad news, we watched some of it!  I am simply appalled at what passes for a "family movie" these days!  And what's worse, the USCCB movie review gave this an A-I (General Patronage)!  The description for what the term A-I means is as follows: 

"Strictly speaking, this does not simply connote films that are “for” children, or films in which they would necessarily be interested. Rather, any film free from significant objectionable content might receive this classification. In the days of the Hollywood Production Code, when it was assumed that almost all mainstream films were acceptable for all audiences, many films with “adult” subject matter -- like 1956’s “Giant” -- received this classification. Nowadays, with even the cleanest adult films usually containing at least instance of foul language, such examples are rare."

This movie starts out with female wolves "strutting their stuff" in front of the male wolves and when the Alpha males struts by, the female wolves call him "hot"!  And that's just for starters!  I know, I know....I'm being too "old fashioned" and "Pollyanna-ish", right?  Perhaps others might not consider this "significantly objectionable content" in the grander scheme of things, but I do!  There are so many other movies that are good and wholesome and edifying!  Why should I have to subject my kids to this nonsense!  I'm so tired of having to be in this defensive mode all the time.

We stopped the movie about 15 minutes into it. They didn't seem that interested anyway.  Nathan did ask if we could finish watching it tomorrow....I said no!  He wanted to know why so Dan and I simply explained that we didn't think it was appropriate for his age group and he seemed OK with that.

Seven Pounds

Last night, after the kids were in bed, Dan and I sat down and watched a movie together! Dan had gone to Target earlier in the day to return something and found that the movie "Seven Pounds" was on sale. We really like Will Smith, so he bought it.

Have you seen this movie?

I won't go into any detail about it (because it could ruin it), but, it was really good...in a strange sort of way. It was one of those "make you think" movies. If you haven't seen it, I would recommend it.

Family Movie Night

We try to have a family movie night on Fridays. It doesn't always work out that way though. Either Dan is working or there is some family/church function that we need to attend. However, today the girls behaved really well at the pediatrician's office (they both have bronchitis!!) and so, we wanted to reward them for a really good day!!

Since we hadn't been to the video store, I scoped out what was "On Demand".....and we ended up watching Horton Hears a Who! I have to say, this was a really good movie! I know that we're a little late in watching it as it came out sometime last year, but, it was great!

I'm sure that all of the political "talking heads" and "pundits", pro-lifer's and pro-choicer's have all had a great time picking it apart....but I must say that it had a GREAT message:

"A person is a person, no matter how small"

Hmmm....even Dr. Seuss got it! When will the rest of the knuckleheads?

If you have not had the chance to see this movie....please rent it! You will not be disappointed! Dan and I were in hysterics several times....I mean really belly-laughing! This was just what I needed to shake me out of my funk!

Just ok.

I took my kids plus my nephew to the movies this afternoon. I didn't really want to go....feeling a little tired and sluggish. I'm also still avoiding the mess in my house! I figured if I could get out of the house for a few hours, maybe when I got home, I will have found that the gnomes and fairies had taken down all of the lovely Christmas decorations and neatly put them away! No such luck!

Anyway...I took them to see this movie. It was cute and nicely animated. Sometimes I wonder, though, why they bother with such deep plots for movies that are rated G. Nathan and Jesse (who are 8 and 11) I'm sure had no problem getting the point of the movie, however, I know for a fact that it flew right past the girls heads. They could not have cared any less about the emotional issues and the "longing" that befuddled each of the characters. Frankly, it was too serious for me. This was evident when I promptly fell asleep about 30 minutes into it.

Overall, I think it was good but, I wouldn't go see it again and I'm not going to rush out to get the DVD when it's available. I think I'd rather just watch Cars or The Incredibles over and over and over and over!
