There has been much sharing and posting in the blogosphere lately about books and I've decided that I want to get into the action! We have a love of books here in our house. For one thing, I've always loved to read. I have read to the kids since they were born (and I read to Nathan
before he was born). I used to read to them even when they were only a few weeks/months old. I would just read aloud any book that I happened to be reading at the time. They really liked it and I think it's paid off. I thought I'd share some of the books that are in our Christmas baskets.
One Wintry Night by Ruth Bell Graham
This has to be one of our all time favorites! This was written by Billy Graham's wife, Ruth. The illustrations are magnificent! Dan is usually the bedtime story reader. He just spent the last 3 or 4 nights reading this and they are asking for him to read it again! If you haven't read it, I encourage you to look for it!
Guess Who's Coming to Santa's for Dinner? by Tomie dePaola
I must tell you right from the start that Tomie de Paola is my very favorite author in the entire world! His stories touch my heart and the illustrations are awesome. This book is a crazy story of a crazy family! The characters are funny and in some ways, reminds me of my own family.
This book made me cry. It is such a heartfelt story of the love of a family separated by war. If any of you have a husband deployed....you'll love this story.
It's a Wonderful Life for Kids! by Jimmy Hawkins
This is a great book that is told from the perspective of Tommy Bailey, the youngest son of George and Mary Bailey. This story also takes place in Bedford Falls and Tommy gets his own angel. It was a cute story and makes much more sense if you read it after watching the movie.
Once a year, our parish school does one week of book collecting and then one week of book selling as a fundraiser for the school. I must tell you, I look so forward to this event in the spring! It's a great way to get rid of old books or books that are no longer in the appropriate age levels for my kids. And a great way to pick up gently used books that are new to us for about 25 cents per book!
I enjoy seeing what's in your Christmas baskets!! Keep sharing!!

We love books in this house, too. I have read to them since I was pregnant with my first one and the others got read to when I was pregnant with them, because I was reading to the other ones! I always love new book recommendations!
oh, fun!! I love Christmas books.. thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the suggestions -- I was able to reserve several at the library.
I have Christmas books that I 'save' to read during this time of the year :) Thanks for sharing. I'll have to check out your picks. My favorite is 'The Real Reason for Christmas' by Margaret Taliferro. It's out of print - my aunt & uncle gave it to my sister & I for Christmas in 1977. I also have a book about 'It's a Wonderful Life' that includes history and pix and the script. Yes, I'm a Christmas movie and book geek : )
I love the story of the Velveteen Rabbit. I'll have to check a few of your books out. Thanks for sharing. I hope you are feeling well.
Thanks for sharing your Christmas books. It's a Wonderful Life is my all-time favorite movie!
