Mother/Son special time!

Nathan and I are going on an adventure! It's a surprise for him! He won't know anything about it until we're on the road! You see, tomorrow is my birthday (44) and Disney World has a deal going on where you get in free on your birthday! Dan set this all up as a gift to me! With the other discounts that you get for being a Florida resident, and for ordering on line....Nathan's ticket is only $60......I know, still way too much but I think it's reasonable for the two of us. He and I will drive down after Dan gets home from work. I haven't been down there in awhile, but I think it takes just under 3 hours. We'll stay the night in a hotel and then spend all day tomorrow at the Magic Kingdom.

At first I was hesitant. For one thing, I'm not thrilled about driving down there at night without Dan. Secondly, I feel a little strange about Nathan getting to experience this for the first time without his sisters. And thirdly...I'm not exactly thrilled with the decisions Disney has made over the years and as a Catholic, I probably should not be giving them any attention or money. But, to tell you the truth, this is just one area where I am not that convicted. I mean, we don't watch the anti-Catholic movies and we would NEVER visit Disney during their "alternative lifestyle" pride parades. For me, you have to pick and choose your battles....I just don't feel like fighting this one.

I'm looking forward to spending this time with Nathan....my first born. He is growing so fast and I pray this is a special time for us. I would have never thought to do this....but I'm glad Dan did.

In a way, I think Dan is afraid that I'm not going to live long enough for all of us to be able to go on a Disney vacation together...and for whatever reason, he thinks this is some kind of milestone that you're supposed to reach before death. I'm not planning on dying anytime soon mind you, but, I don't think that possibility escapes Dan. Believe me...it doesn't escape me either.

So, I ask for your prayers for safe travel and for a special, meaningful time for Nathan and I.

I'll be back Thursday with pictures!

I will be praying you have a wonderful time with Nathan, Nancy. For all the controversial stuff Disney has brought to our culture, they certainly have blessed many families with some beautiful memories. It's great that you and Nathan are getting to create some of your own! I'm so glad we did with our children. Have a blast!

I think it's a great idea! I am normally one who does everything Even-Steven. I would never take one without the others. But lately, I am seeing the value of one-on-one experiences with mom or dad. I think as long as one child is not always the one singled out, it's very healthy. I am confident you will be able to do it with each child! Maybe you could do it on your birthday (or their's) every couple years!

Hi Nancy. I just discovered your blog and love it! You sound like my long lost twin sister ( if I had one, that is!) Have fun in Disneyland and enjoy your special time with your son.

Have fun Nancy. Disney is one of my very favorite places. What a special thing to be able to experience it just you and your son!
