Aggravations!

Apparently, I'm going to have to start moderating comments! This really aggravates me!
I didn't think it was possible to actually spam comments! These "comments" are showing up on posts from months ago...even one from over a year ago! In addition, they are from "anonymous". ***sigh****

I would say that about half of you whose blogs I read/comment on regularly, have enabled comment moderation. I'm going to give it a few more days. If I get more of this...I'm moderating! I've always felt that people should be able to say what they want to say about what I've written. I'm not afraid of disagreement! Just don't use my comment box to sell your pharmaceutical products! Anyway....how do you fellow bloggers deal with this?

The last time I got spammed I had to moderate for weeks -- they were very persistent. And in Japanese no less!

Oh yes there is such a thing as SPAM bots! They do nothing but SPAM sites and leave SPAM comments. So it might not even be a "real" person, but a SPAM bot! I get about 5 SPAM bot messages per week. That has only happen the last few weeks. I because of sitemter and statcounter know it's a SPAM bot. When I started blogging I learned about those things. That's why from the begining I started moderation.

I had to do the same thing...
My blog is definitely NOT the right place for the "medications" they are pushing...and I've had Russian and Japanese, too!

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with this. I have always moderated the comments, it just seems easier this way, you don't have to deal with spam, swears, and anti-Catholic sentiments.

when I first started blogging, I didn't get much spam but I had the occasional nasty anti Catholic comment.

I also had some nasty comments about being a mother to 7. My children were reading my blog regularly then and I really didn't want them to read some of the comments that some people were leaving so I decided it was time to moderate comments. I really hated doing it and thought that comments would drop off because of it but it really didn't have that big an affect.

One thing I think blogger could do is have a button you press to allow all comments from a certain poster without moderation. Mostly I get comments from the same people and rarely do I need to reject a comment.

I have been moderating comments for a long time. I can't remember exactly why I began it, but I am glad that I am because I have had the same sort of spam that you are dealing with. I approve or disapprove of each comment. Like you, I don't mind dissenting opinions, but my blog will not be used to sell prescription drugs or as a link to porn sites.
